Welcome to the Quantum Optoelectronics and Optical Metrology Group Website

Welcome to the Quantum Optoelectronics and Optical Metrology Group! We are located in the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. Our research interests span solid-state quantum optics, solid-state approaches to quantum information science and the development of nanoscale optics-based sensing modalities. We currently investigate new features that arise in traditional quantum optics experiments when the material system, typically an atom, is replaced by an individual solid-state based light emitter such as quantum dot or defect center. Spins localized in these 2 systems can also serve as quantum bits and we are pursuing approaches to exploiting these for applications in quantum information science. Finally, we study hybrid nanostructures consisting of solid-state quantum emitters, active and passive nanophotonic cavities and nanomechanical resonators. This provides an exciting platform to study the quantum physics of hybrid physical systems as well as a means to develop nanoscale sensors capable of sub-diffraction limited quantum enhanced metrology.
